Taylor Swift has been named No. 6 on Fortune’s 40 Under 40 list, a ranking of ‘the most influential young people in the business.’

Swift’s No. 6 slot–the highest ranking for an entertainer–was given to her not only because she’s the highest-earning musician of the year, but specifically because of how the 25-year-old used her powerful voice this year to take on Spotify’s free model (by pulling her music), as well as her open letter that convinced Apple Music to pay artists during a free trial period for consumers.

In Fortune’s words, that makes ‘Swift the poster child for all artists hoping to reclaim their rights–and their revenue–in a digital world. Now that’s major influence she can’t shake off.’

Solid 1989 reference, Fortune.

My one friend, he looked at his phone like someone had died, and it was just that Taylor Swift had tweeted me. Which was a bigger deal to me, no no I’m just kidding!

Funny thing is when I was writing ‘Wild’ the song that she instagrammed and tweeted about and stuff, 1989 had just come out and I dunno we were like ‘I feel like Taylor Swift would like this song,’ and stuff like that, being really cocky about it and then she actually did. So it was just like full circle, awesome moment.

“I’m not stronger than anybody else. I feel everything that happens to me, whether it’s a mean comment from a friend or a stranger. At no point in this process did I grow a thick skin.”
